The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
