Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
The filmmaker's bold critique examines the tyranny of female beauty along with the dreaded aspects of growing older. Demi Moore presents a masterful performance playing Elisabeth, a mature actress forced into hosting an aerobics show on television. Pushed out thanks to her slimy boss Harvey, she seeks out a secretive and horrifying procedure called the Substance. This creates a younger clone portrayed by Margaret Qualley, leading to a progressively vampiric relationship between them. This Friday, Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10 Film
This Agatha Christie-esque mystery stars the talented actress in the role of Laura, an ace reporter who opts for a break from reporting on world issues to embark on a luxury cruise with an ailing Norwegian shipping heiress and donor, her partner, and other extremely wealthy passengers. However when an enigmatic female goes overboard overnight and all passengers denies she ever existed, the reporter's sleuthing skills take over. Out now, Netflix
Presence Film
The acclaimed director challenges his film-making abilities in this nifty paranormal narrative filmed completely through the eyes of the spirit. As a family including mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe moves into their fresh home, the camera – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The daughter appears aware of the ghostly being, and it looks like guarding her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Cage embraces his unique fame via this meta comedy caper. The Black Phone Horror
Derrickson's locked-room horror holds up well even without a sequel. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, a series of disappearances has left the children on edge. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a dungeon, he fears a terrible outcome. But the old telephone on the wall keeps ringing, with eerie communicators offering help, as the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. An effective horror. October 11th, nighttime, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for greed in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish biopic regarding the shamed religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals begin profiting from the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of bad interior design, overdone appearance and insincerity, however Chastain succeeds to present the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, on Film4
The Spy Mystery
The current week's another release from Steven Soderbergh delivers a intelligence thriller as sharp like the turtlenecks used by the actor's UK spy. His assignment is with uncovering a mole among the team from a group of five – among them is his own wife. Both actors are masters of deadpan cool, resulting in an engaging mind game of fact versus fiction unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the intelligent intelligence fun. This Friday, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema
