Nearly 25,000 Lost Power in South-East Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Storms

Around twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the region, producing wind gusts topping 109km/h.

Large Hailstones and Widespread Impact

Residents reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts announced that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with dozens of response units deployed to handle the widespread outages.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, nearly one thousand residents in the southern state also experienced energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the state, primarily for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on the previous day, over 28k power users in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Medical authorities warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
